BACK IN ARIZONA FOR THE WINTER
Sorry for the delay between blogs. We are nesting back in Arizona now and have delinquent about keeping up the blog.
We had a good trip through California. We stayed a couple of days in the wilderness around Lake Shasta and then made it to Zoe’s son’s in San Luis Obispo. We stayed at Morro Bay with its famous Rock. We shopped at their interesting shops there and got additions to our small cactus garden that we keep in the front window of the rig. They had a boat in Morro Bay that took us out on the bay where we could see sights on the water and below the water with their glass bottom boat. We saw an otter and her pup. and a sea lion and hundreds of fish below the water.
We stopped as usual to see Cap’n Toni on the Sacramento Delta. We went on an eco-cruise of the Sacramento Delta canals that was very revealing. There is great concern about something like what happened in New Orleans could happen with the dikes in the Delta. So they are doing many things to strengthen the dikes. There were many environmentalists and some engineers on the cruise and they gave their views of the pros and cons of the methods. A real eye opener. At the end of the cruise, the boat owner, who also has a large nursery on the Delta, told the passengers that they could help themselves to all the vegetables they wanted in his garden behind the nursery. So we really loaded up with tomatoes, watermelons, cantaloupe, eggplants, kale, squash. We ate very healthily for a couple of weeks.
Then it was on to Palm Springs to see our friends Fran and Janey and Howard and Jack. Fran and Janey had been with us in France and it was to catch up on events since then. We attended an exhibit of examples of Leonardo Da Vinci’s inventions that was fascinating. We were impressed by the progress that Jack has made since his stroke. He speaks excellently now and can walk several steps. The fruit and vegetables they grow in their yard are amazing.
We were so excited to get back to AZ (and vote) that we extended our usual 200-mile limit and drove straight through. (It worked. I’m sure our vote made the difference!))
