LIVING ON WATER
We are finally settled on our houseboat and loving it. The top photo shows our dock (number 7). Our boat is the one with two chairs on top but is NOT the one with the frame, that’s next door. We are saving furnishing the top until next year. It is huge, 14 X 47. We have been fine-tuning the interior this year. We had DirectTV installed and a flat screen TV with surround sound. Lovern feels pretty proud of getting all the connections to that hooked up right. Zoe has been busy adding new shelves in the pantry and putting in the shelves for the closet. She also installed a new cabinet in the bathroom.
In our usual reconstructive mode, we tore out the corner bench in the dining area with help of friend Cap’n Toni. It took up too much room and was uncomfortable. We replaced it with a futon that can double as a bed. Toni also treated the redwood deck with boiled linseed oil that brought out the natural beauty of the wood. We put together two bookshelves and a desk for the office area.
We’ve been pretty busy but not too busy to enjoy being in the center of the largest area in the US for fresh fruits and vegetables. We haven’t made it to the two Farmer’s Markets yet but have still been able to relish the wonderful food here plus over 50 boutique wineries in the area. We discovered a great sushi restaurant in our local mall that serves fantastic raw fish. We’ve had visits from Lovern’s son, Frank , and his wife Linda and Lovern’s nephew, Tom. Zoe’s son, Russell, and family have also dropped in.
We especially enjoy sitting on the back deck after dinner and absorbing the beautiful sunsets.
