THE COAST BY BIG SUR

JUNE IN THE DELTA

We continue to enjoy our ‘house on the water’ and sharing it with our friends on their way north. It is fun showing them the Delta waterways and some of the waterfront restaurants we have found on the way. We have even taken the houseboat out for spin. Last fall we watched them harvesting the corn in the fields near us. This year we saw them plant it again and observed its phenomenal growth. You could literally see it grow before your eyes in the lush peat soil. (Yes, we do have other things to do other than watch corn grow.)
The Saturday market has come to our nearby mall and we are able to get luscious fresh fruits and vegetables and even fresh pastry products. The asparagus season is waning but the cherries are in full force and the apricots, nectarines and peaches are coming on strong. There are many Asian farmers in this area and one booth has a great variety of Asian greens. We love having the availability of these products.
Our RV has been languishing in the storage lot with the price of diesel as high as it is. We did take a quick trip down to San Luis Obispo in our car for Zoe’s grandson’s high school graduation. We decided to take the scenic route down on Highway 1. Although it added over an hour to our trip the scenery was dramatic with crashing waves and passage through the redwoods. We stopped for lunch in the Big Sur area and had a delicious lunch overlooking a clear rippling brook.
The sunsets from our rear deck just seem to get better and better.
